Quarantine/Conditioning Process
GHI Corals Quarantine/Conditioning Process
The health of the corals we place in our systems is very important. GHI Corals employs a rigorous quarantine protocol that spans a minimum of two weeks for all newly acquired corals before they are made available for sale. This practice is essential for ensuring the well-being of both the corals and the ecosystems they inhabit.
The quarantine process serves multiple purposes. Firstly, it allows for the observation of corals in a controlled environment, enabling the identification of any potential health issues or pests that may not have been visible at the time of acquisition. During this period, corals are monitored closely for signs of stress, disease, or pests such as flatworms, aptasia and algae, which can significantly impact their survival and growth in a home aquarium setting.
Many corals taken in can harbor parasites that may not manifest immediately. By implementing a quarantine process, GHI Corals can effectively mitigate the risk of introducing harmful organisms into the broader marine environment. This proactive approach is supported by many hobbyists who only want the best for there aquariums.
During the quarantine phase, corals are provided with optimal conditions that mimic their natural habitat. This includes maintaining appropriate water parameters such as temperature, salinity, and pH levels, and nutrients which are critical for coral health.
Below is a list of actions we use during the full quarantine process.
- Daily ammino acid dose
- 1-2 times per week dipping procedure
- Daily inspections
- Feeding as needed
- Daily testing
- Specialized dips when dealing with specific pests or bacterial infections
- and more.
Furthermore, the quarantine process allows for us to handle the fast on set of certain bacterial infections to deal with them and help build the corals immune system to be as healthy as possible so you don't have to!
In conclusion, the quarantine period implemented by GHI Corals is a vital component of a successful reef. It not only safeguards the health of the corals but also contributes to healthier aquariums and happier hobbyists. By prioritizing the well-being of these aquatic organisms, GHI Corals reinforces its commitment to providing high-quality specimens that can flourish in home aquariums.
